Steamy Recs July 2024

Hi Wild Ones! I’m sad to say I haven’t finished one damn romance book this whole month! I have two that I’m in the middle of, one audiobook and one paper book. I haven’t finished either. But I do have a romance TV rec! (along with half the population, probably, lol)

Bridgerton Season 3

I enjoyed Penelope and Colin’s story a lot. It was fun and delightful, and it didn’t go exactly as I expected it to go. I still like season 1 best – nothing beats Daphne and Simon for me – but I really liked the way they handled Penelope’s… extra activities.

SPOILER! I liked the way her writing made her independent, both financially and personally. And I liked the way she wasn’t ultimately made to give that up. I don’t know how historically accurate that would really be. Sometimes I think the show is more modern-viewpoint wish-fulfillment than reality when it comes to the way it handles women’s issues. But it does make me stop and think about those past realities in ways I may not have otherwise done, so I think it served its purpose.

In any case, Penelope is beautiful and strong and vulnerable, and I loved seeing her come into her own. Also, seeing her sisters and mom have positive moments.
